Former Fellow Professor James Walvin OBE was one of the very first scholars to visit IASH after our foundation in 1969. Jim conducted research at the Institute in 1971, as you can see in our 50th anniversary timeline, and he writes here about the ways in which his time in Edinburgh impacted on his work and career.
A major working paper has been published by 2020 IASH-Alwaleed Research Fellow Dr Daan Beekers.
The Alwaleed Centre was delighted to welcome anthropologist Dr Daan Beekers to the team, firstly as a Visiting Fellow and then as an IASH-Alwaleed Research Fellow. During his time at the Centre, Dr Beekers produced a major working paper based on research undertaken as part of the research project 'Religious Matters in an Entangled World' at Utrecht University.

Dr Jivitesh Vashisht is the 2020-21 Junior Anniversary Fellow and also the Brotherton Fellow at the University of Leeds. His research spans a range of literary forms and cultural productions, and typically cuts across twentieth-century fiction, drama, and media cultures (radio and cinema).
New Directions in Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-Century Art (NDENCA) is a digital seminar series aimed at championing new scholarly voices working across visual and material cultures in this period. It aims to take a global perspective, and in particular welcomes contributions by scholars from minority groups.
Postdoctoral Fellow Dr Zsuzsanna Végh, in collaboration with Dr Michaela Reinfeld, organised a workshop on January 24th 2020 on the trade in illicit antiquities across social media. The workshop was supported by IASH's Susan Manning Workshop Fund.
Dr Xiaona Wang, 2019-20 Susan Manning Fellow at IASH, has secured a prestigious Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the University of Warwick’s Centre for the Study of the Renaissance.
