Accessibility at IASH
The Institute is based in a row of nineteenth-century tenements combined to form one building. While parts of the building are not accessible for people with mobility issues, due to the lack of a lift, the ground floor has been renovated in 2023 to include a wheelchair-accessible office with adjustable height desk, an accessible toilet, and level access from the entrance via reception to the conference room and kitchen. A Personal Evacuation Plan can be developed for any Fellows wishing to do so. Other accessibility options available include screen-reader software, noise-cancelling headphones for Fellows in shared offices, etc.. The building does not have powered doors due to its listed status, unfortunately.
The majority of our in-house events are held on the first floor (up one flight of stairs), but are also streamed online in hybrid format, or can be moved downstairs to the fully accessible conference room. Streamed events usually have automated subtitling. BSL interpretation and/or live captioning can be arranged with sufficient notice. We are endeavouring to improve access for all Fellows and visitors, so please contact us if you have any queries about accommodations we could offer.
