Former Fellow wins $1m Prize

Onora O'Neill

Onora Sylvia O’Neill, Baroness O’Neill of Bengarve, has been awarded the Berggruen Prize for Philosophy & Culture. Prof. O'Neill is an alumna and a long-standing supporter of IASH, first visiting as a Project Fellow in 1989, then again as the 2001 Gifford Lecturer. She continued her connection with the Institute as a member of IASH'S Advisory Board for many years.

The Jury Statement for her Prize stated:

Dr Theodore Koutmeridis's paper published in "Brexit: the impact on Scotland"

Dr Theodore Koutmeridis, Lecturer in Economics at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, and IASH Fellow, is one of the authors in a collection of papers just published by the Royal Society of Edinburgh / Young Academy of Scotland.

"Brexit: the impact on Scotland" is part of the Young Academy of Scotland's response to the UK's decision to leave the European Union.

Former Fellow's Film Takes Flight

David Harrower playwright

An Olivier Award-winning play written at IASH has been adapted for the cinema. Una released on 1 September – is based on David Harrower’s critically acclaimed drama Blackbird. David wrote the play at IASH while he was an Edinburgh Festival Creative Fellow in 2004-2005.

Blackbird premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2005. David has now written the screenplay for Una, which is directed by Benedict Andrews.

Leemon McHenry's new publication: The Event Universe. The Revisionary Metaphysics of Alfred North Whitehead

We are very pleased to have a new addition to the Sprigge Room library at IASH. Leemon McHenry, Professor of Philosophy at California State University, is a former student of Professor Sprigge and was instrumental in the foundation of that library.

Dr. Endre Szécsényi awarded prestigious title of Full Professor at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Endre Szécsényi, an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation fellow at IASH in 2008 and visiting fellow in 2001, has been awarded the title of Full Professor at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest. This prestigious appointment was made by the President of Hungary, and is effective from June 2015.

IASH Fellow elected to Royal Society of Edinburgh Fellowship

Professor Samuel Cohn, currently in residence as a Visiting Research Fellow at IASH, has been elected this week as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.  Professor Cohn is one of just 56 Fellows elected this year across the RSE's multidisciplinary purview spanning the arts, business, science and technology sectors.
