Dr. Endre Szécsényi awarded prestigious title of Full Professor at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Endre Szécsényi, an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation fellow at IASH in 2008 and visiting fellow in 2001, has been awarded the title of Full Professor at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest. This prestigious appointment was made by the President of Hungary, and is effective from June 2015.

During his time at IASH in 2008, Dr. Szécsényi worked on his project “The Heritage of Enlightenment: John Macmurray and Hannah Arendt.” In 2001, he pursued his research into the notion of “aesthetic freedom” in early British Enlightenment.  He found both three-month fellowships highly beneficial for his academic development.

Since leaving IASH, Dr. Szécsényi has acted as Associate Professor in the Department of Aesthetics at ELTE, and is currently holding a two-year Marie Curie Research Fellowship in the Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies at the University of Aberdeen, where he is working on a book-project entitled “Inventing the Aesthetic: a Historical-Theoretical Approach.”

We congratulate Dr. Szécsényi on this outstanding achievement.
