Auntie has gathered us all to relive and celebrate our glorious shared past, but unfortunately she also has some tragic, terrible, and most pressing news. And she needs your help.

This hilarious dark comedy is the latest piece by Scotland’s form-defying theatre company, Disaster Plan, aka multi-award-winning theatre makers Julia Taudevin and Kieran Hurley. Auntie Empire is an outrageous contemporary satire on Britannia and the grotesque absurdity of her imperial self-regard. Blending bouffon comedy, satire and audience interaction, Auntie Empire is a bloody, messy, hilarious and timely lampoon of the myths of nationhood. The piece was first developed at IASH in 2020 during Julia's Fellowship.

Disaster Plan is the creative partnership of theatre makers Julia Taudevin and Kieran Hurley, with producer Luke Holbrook. Together, they make accessible, exhilarating, cross-artform theatre for audiences across Scotland and beyond. Formally established as the home for Taudevin and Hurley’s long-term collaboration, Disaster Plan continues a shared practice that has produced award-winning and internationally acclaimed works including HitchBeatsChalk FarmRantinHeads Up, and Blow Off.

The show is on at Summerhall as part of Manipulate Festival from 8-9 February at 8pm. More information and tickets are available here: https://www.manipulatearts.co.uk/events/auntie-empire/
