BIO

Julia is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, actor and director and is co-artistic director of the Glasgow based theatre company, Disaster Plan. Her plays include James Tait Black Award for Drama nominated Some Other Mother, Dario Fo Festival Award winner Blow Off, a feminist punk-rock gig-theatre explosion and most recently Move, a multi-lingual portrait of grief and migration through story and song that premiered in her motherland the Isle of Lewis in January and is coming to the Edinburgh Fringe later this year as part of Made In Scotland. Julia was brought up in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia and lives in Glasgow with her family.

AUNTIE EMPIRE

Whilst at IASH I will be working on Auntie Empire, a gory political comedy about the British Empire. I will be researching empire, Britishness and grotesque comedy and actively seeking discussion about identity, patriotism, guilt and gore.
