Current Postdoctoral Fellow Dr Laura Cariola outlines her new book series:
A few months ago I received an email from Sarah Busby, the commissioning editor for linguistics at University of Exeter Press. Sarah told me that she wanted to develop a new book series in the area of discourse and mental health, and she was interested to hear about my opinion on what themes, methods and emerging paradigms should be captured for such a book series. It was just a matter of days before Sarah and I had an inspiring conversation about my favourite topic - “language, discourse and mental health”.
During the conversation, I was also obviously curious how Sarah had heard about me, and it was great to find out that she knew about my academic blog “Language and Mind” (hosted by the University of Edinburgh), which is an international and interdisciplinary network of academics and practitioners with an interest in language and mental health. After our phone conversation, Sarah followed up and I was delighted when Sarah asked me whether I would be interested in being the editor of the book series. Of course I accepted, and it is amazing news that less than four months later, the book series “Language, Discourse and Mental Health” is on its way with several titles already lined up for the official launch in 2019. One of the book titles includes my monograph based on the research I have conducted as a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities: Presentations of Borderline Personality Disorder in the UK press: A corpus-assisted study.
The book series is co-edited by a group of fantastic colleagues from the UK, Norway and the USA — Dr Stefan Ecks (University of Edinburgh), Dr Billy Lee (University of Edinburgh), Dr Lisa Mikesell (Rutgers University) and Dr Anders Nordahl-Hansen (University of Oslo).
