AI, Ghostwriting and the Ethics of Authorship
The problem of authorship credit and fraud is clearly documented in industry-sponsored ghostwriting and in personal career enhancement. Emerging AI technology raises the problem to a whole new level -- AI ghostwriting --i.e., concealing the role of AI in the published literature and the false attribution of authorship. In this talk, I expose the scientific misconduct arising from ghostwriting pharmaceutical industry clinical research, as revealed from previously confidential documents de-classified in litigation and discuss the ethics of authorship and the failure of scientific journals to address the problem.
