Edinburgh’s Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies is proud to announce a special event taking place on Tuesday 3rd May 2016. Professor Walter Pohl of the Institut für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung of the University of Vienna and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, will lead a round table discussion on ‘Romanness after Rome’.  Professor Pohl is one of the most distinguished early medieval historians in Europe, author of numerous books and articles, and is particularly well known for his groundbreaking studies on early medieval ethnic identity.

Professor Kathryn Tanner: Christianity and the New Spirit of Capitalism: An Introduction

Kathryn Tanner is the current Marquand Professor of Systematic Theology at Yale University. Her research relates the history of Christian thought to contemporary issues of theological concern using social, cultural, and feminist theory.

The title of her lecture series is, “Christianity and the New Spirit of Capitalism”. There will be a drinks reception after the first and the last lecture (Monday 2 and Thursday 12 May 2016).
