Project Title: Race, Colonialism, Technology

Much important work has focused on the ways technologies, particularly contemporary digital and algorithmic technologies, reproduce existing race and gender biases. This IASH collaboration extends these important studies of racial and gender-biased outcomes, to the racial and gendered logics that constitute the concept of technology itself. Our aim is to move away from simply defaulting into positions that advocate for “better” or less racist, sexist uses of technology, instead exploring the raciality of technology, where colonial logic precedes and enables modern technology.
