Dr Lucia Cervi

Dr Lucia Cervi is an interdisciplinary academic and a lecturer in Human Resource Management and Employment Relations at the University of Edinburgh Business School. Her background is in political science, human rights, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and her research broadly embraces questions of ethics and organisations. She is generally eager to investigate phenomena that lie at the intersection of the political, the neoliberal, and the corporate, from a qualitative and critical perspective. She obtained both her MSc and her PhD in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR) at the University of Nottingham. Prior to this, she obtained a BSc (Hons) in Political Science, International Relations, and Human Rights from the University of Padova. She is a member of the Gender, Work & Organization Gender and Health at Work Network, of the Centre for Business, Climate Change, and Sustainability (B-CCaS), of GENDER.ED and of SPRITE+ Hub.

My areas of academic expertise and interest are feminist theory and gender studies, critical theory, Critical Management Studies (CMS), Business Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). My research is currently oriented towards Big Tech and Big Data, sustainability, and TIPS (Trust, Identity, Privacy, and Security).

My research has focused on the role played by organisations in shaping the exercise of reproductive rights, with a specific focus on infertility and the UK fertility treatment sector. Currently, I am investigating the social and organisational implications of digitalisation, including 1) the changing shape of trust within blockchain technology; 2) the emerging digital vulnerabilities surrounding FinTech, and Buy-Now Pay-Later in particular; and 3) the politico-historical implications of Big Tech practices.
