Dr Kadija Bouyzourn
IASH Public Engagement Fellow, September 2026 - July 2027
Dr Kadija Bouyzourn is a Public Engagement and Co-production Associate at the NIHR School for Social Care Research, University of Sheffield. Her work explores how language, migration and communication shape people’s experiences of health and care, with a particular focus on multilingual and low-literate communities. She works across public engagement, translation studies and medical humanities, using co-produced and creative approaches to make research more inclusive. During her IASH Public Engagement Fellowship, she will develop Voicing Care, exploring how migrant women share and navigate care through community-based practices.
Project title: Voicing Care: How Migrant Women Share and Navigate Care through Oral and Relational Practices
Voicing Care: How Migrant Women Share and Navigate Care through Oral and Relational Practices explores how oral, relational and other informal communicative practices shape how migrant and refugee women access, experience and navigate care. Through co-produced Community Care Circles in Edinburgh, the project brings together women from Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) backgrounds to explore experiences of care and the ways knowledge is shared within communities. Working collaboratively with participants and community partners, the project will develop creative public engagement activities that contribute to more inclusive approaches to research, public engagement and care.
