I am an Early Career Researcher and Lecturer in International Politics. My research examines the temporal politics of protection in UK anti-trafficking policy and practice. I have previously investigated how temporality influences discourses, experiences, and practices of post-trafficking protection through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with women navigating life after trafficking, published in International Political Sociology.

Project title: Protect the (m)other: negotiating motherhood after trafficking in Britain

My current project takes this further, asking how the experience and aftermath of human trafficking influences mothers’ encounters with the nation-state. By holding a participatory theatre and video-making workshop, I will collaborate with mothers who have exited human trafficking in Britain to creatively explore their impressions of belonging whilst critically evaluating dominant representations of ‘modern slavery’ and ‘Britishness.’ This will contribute to feminist International Relations and critical race literature on human trafficking, migration, and citizenship.
