Dr Em Folescu
Visiting Research Fellow, February 2022 - July 2022
Home Institution: University of Missouri
Dr. M. “Em” Folescu is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Missouri, USA. Dr. Folescu specializes in historical philosophy of language and mind. At IASH, Dr. Folescu will be engaging with the writings of Mary Shepherd (1777-1847), a late representative of the Scottish School of Philosophy, whose views have been unduly neglected, primarily because of her gender, in a traditionally male-dominated discipline. Dr. Folescu will show how several ideas in Shepherd's unjustly neglected texts can be developed into a significant and defensible contribution to current philosophical discussions of consciousness and causation. Dr. Folescu plans to be at IASH from 1 February to 31 July 2022, where she looks forward to collaborating with Jonny Cottrell and Jennifer Marusic in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences.
