Nova Police of the North: William Burroughs, Scotland, and Countercultural Nationalism
In 2015, I received my PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Edinburgh with research on religion and the historic avant-garde, and which will be published as my first monograph: Words Like Fire: Prophecy and Apocalypse in Apollinaire, Marinetti, and Pound (Legenda, 2019). I have published articles on a variety of subjects, such as the Bible in the avant-garde, literature and politics, surrealism, and futurism, and I currently teach literature at the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Napier University. My current research at IASH examines the tensions between national identity and the counterculture, as expressed with hegemonic and subordinate nationalities, and particularly through the figure of Beat writer, William S. Burroughs.
