Francisco's research lies at the intersection of culture, history, and migration within Venezuelan studies. He is interested in how oil-fuelled modernisation, the dialectic of civilisation and barbarism, and their associated social and spatial hierarchies are mediated through Venezuelan visual and textual discourse. His current work pays particular attention to how Venezuelan migrant culture re-articulates socio-spatial divisions in the transnational reality of the diaspora. Drawing on material culture, digital humanities, and critical theory, Francisco has pursued these interests within academic writing and teaching, and through a rich curatorial and public engagement practice.
