Comics to Handle Intersectionality in Central America and Jamaica - From Zines to Digital Comic-Like Media in Comics Activism

Working on the use of comics and comic-like media to tackle intersectional experiences, to educate about intersectionality, but also to foster activism and resistance in Central America and Jamaica I started to look for zines as more or less underground form of comic-activism. But as difficult as it is to find any paper-based products at several places in this region, it is to find such zines. Instead, as in political or civic education communication digital media is of major importance nowadays, with zines being still in use at least in some capitals. These digital comics have links to zine-activism and are distinctive at the same time. By following these tracks and present major and exemplary comics the wide field of comic-activism to handle intersectionality in Central America and Jamaica comes into perspective. This allows to give an impression of the pathway, but also challenges within the research project, from how to understand intersectionality, how to interdisciplinary connect i.a. anthropology, comic studies and contemporary history, or how to get a perspective on comic communication or how to distinguish between comic and comic-like media.
