Join us for a special screening and Q&A with Moayed Abu Ammouna, a Palestinian filmmaker and artist whose powerful work spans film, photography, and experimental storytelling. Originally from Gaza City, Abu Ammouna’s art explores themes of land, identity, displacement, and the ongoing trauma of colonialism. He is the 2025 Artist at Risk Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh.

This event is part of CULTURE = LIFE: A Palestinian Artist Programme presented during Refugee Week 2025. Through his films and visual projects, Abu Ammouna offers a poignant reflection on the lived experiences of Palestinians—particularly those born after the Nakba—and the legacy of forced exile and occupation. His art highlights the uprooting of roots, collective memory, and the challenges of cultural survival under continued political violence.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Abu Ammouna, where he will share insights into his creative process and speak about the narratives and emotions that inform his work. The discussion will provide a space for meaningful engagement with ideas around cultural resistance, storytelling, and the role of art in witnessing and healing.
Audiences are invited not only to watch but to reflect, ask questions, and be part of a deeper conversation on how visual art can speak across borders, challenge erasure, and amplify the voices of the marginalized.

Biography
Moayed Abu Ammouna is a Palestinian filmmaker based in Gaza City, specialising in short films that embed his personal experience of living in Gaza. With a Bachelor’s degree in Media (Radio and Television) from Al-Aqsa University, Moayed’s work blends film, photography, and experimental visual storytelling. His art explores themes of land, identity, and the trauma of colonialism, reflecting on displacement and collective memory, especially among the post-Nakba generations. Through his evocative visuals and personal narratives, Abu Ammouna’s films offer a form of cultural resistance, bringing Palestinian voices and stories to the forefront. His work highlights the ongoing struggles of Palestinians, with a focus on survival and truth-telling in the face of adversity.
