IASH Director wins Chancellor's Award

The Chancellor's Award, crafted by Edinburgh College of Art students, and the awards ceremony program.

The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities is pleased to announce that our Director, Professor Jo Shaw, has been recognised with a prestigious Chancellor’s Award for Research.

Professor Shaw accepted the award at a formal ceremony at Holyrood Palace earlier this week.

The award is selected on grounds of innovation, relevance, creativity and personal dedication.  It highlights her significant contribution to legal research, particularly in the area of EU constitutional issues, with an emphasis on citizenship.

Since 2005, Professor Shaw has held the Salvesen Chair of European Institutions at the University of Edinburgh. This year will see her lead the conclusion of a five-year research project on citizenship in the successor states of the Former Yugoslavia (CITSEE), for which the European Research Council granted her a Senior Investigator Award.

Her contribution to research at the University of Edinburgh goes beyond her own projects, as she served five years as the Dean of Research for the College of Humanities and Social Science.

As IASH Director, Professor Shaw now plays an integral role in fostering innovative research in the humanities and social sciences and building interdisciplinary networks across the University and beyond.
