इज़्ज़तनगरी की असभ्य बेटियाँ /Immoral Daughters is a cinematic account of the stories of five young Jat women who dare to resist and question. They take on the powerful Khaps (patriarchal and casteist organs of a feudal society) and in the process confront ‘honour’ crimes, injustice and social boycotts. These multi-narratives of women are inter-cut with that of Khaps. Through these stories, The Immoral Daughters expose the fissures, hypocrisy and violence in a supposedly modern and democratic India.

Dr. Umesh Kumar, Charles Wallace Postdoctoral Fellow, will screen the film and lead a discussion on the film's representation of gendered violence in contemporary India. He will comment on the multi-narrative film focusing on the stories of five young Jat women exposes the gendered fault lines, hypocrisy and violence unleashed under the sanctioned capital of honour and its 'eternal' regime in the Indian state of Haryana. He will also discuss the English subtitles of the Haryanavi-language film, particularly on the translation of gendered subjectivities into English within the South Asian context. As he will show, both the content and translation of the film are invariably and intrinsically linked.
