Dr Owen Parry - (Anti) Fans and Amateur-Experts
This work in progress talk explores the convergence of art practice and fandom since the internet with reference to Owen's ongoing artistic research. Fan Riot is an expansive project which includes a fan club series with contributing artists and fan practitioners, publications exploring the relationship between fanfiction and critical theory, and a number of artworks and performances. Building on his research into participatory fan cultures, this talk also looks at how fandom might become a useful lens through which to explore the collective, aesthetic practices of anti-fans and haters online.
NB: Following my talk I will be going straight to Glasgow, where at 6pm I will be staging Fan Club 5 at CCA (Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow) as part of Buzzcut Double Thrills – festival of performance. You are all invited! Info and tickets here: https://www.glasgowbuzzcut.co.uk/double-thrills-april-2019
