Roundtable discussion: Performativity and Asian Religious Texts

What does it mean for a text to have a performative aspect? How do we know if a text is meant to be performed, or to perform? How do we account for the performative nature of texts when we study them? This roundtable, featuring Professor Natalie Gummer (Beloit College, Wisconsin) and colleagues from across the University of Edinburgh, will explore such questions using examples from research into Asian religious texts.
