Bridging polical, legal and historical perspectives on Contemporary Europe (link)
[Europa Research Group & Political History Research Group]
An event co-organized by Edinburgh University Political History Research Group and the Europa Research Group. The event is built around the invitation of Dr. Marco Duranti to talk about his book The Conservative Human Rights Revolution: European Identity, Transnational Politics, and the Origins of the European Convention (New York: Oxford University Press, 2017). His work speaks to the interests of different research areas such as International and European Law, British and European Politics and Political History.
The programme is divided into three parts. First of all, PhD and postdoctoral researchers from different academic backgrounds discuss the values and challenges of understanding the contemporary world using historical data and historical research methods. Secondly, we have an in depth discussion around Dr. Duranti’s work on the cultural, intellectual, and political foundations of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). Finally, an interdisciplinary panel discussion gathering academics from law, politics and history, will tease out the historical, legal and political perspectives on the public debates on the UK's relationship to the European Court of Human Rights. For a more detailed programme including speakers: go to the Europa Research group website event page
