Meet our new interns

Yuke Huang and Lauren Galligan

Hi everyone - we are this year’s IASH interns under the University’s Employ.ed on Campus internship scheme.

I am Lauren and I have just finished my third year studying English Literature and am looking forward to the summer working as genderED’s Events and Communications intern. Having dedicated lots of time over my undergraduate years to voluntary journalism roles and gender-related charity work, particularly around period poverty, I am eager to see how these skills complement each other and can be implemented in the internship. I am looking forward to working closely with IASH and RACE.ED as part of genderED to showcase and build on the valuable work being done at the university. I also hope that these collaborations will help to expand my knowledge, learn from those around me, and give me a greater understanding of the world of gender and sexualities in Edinburgh and beyond.

I am Yuke and I am working as a communication and events intern for RACE.ED and IASH. I will help developing the Institute Project on Decoloniality as well as facilitating other exciting events that are taking place with RACE.ED and IASH. I have just finished my third year studying History of Art, with a strong interest in race, queer and postcolonial studies. In the future 12 weeks of internship, I am hoping to bring my unique perspective to the work of RACE.ED, apply my knowledge to the real-life working environment, and contribute to the development of IASH. I am also super excited about learning more and expanding my horizon on the race and racialisation studies that can help with my own research in the future.

We are so grateful to RACE.ED, genderED and IASH for giving us this opportunity!
