Professor Daniela Casale from the University of the Witwatersrand has been appointed as the 1500th Fellow at the Institute. Daniela is a development economist with over twenty years’ experience in the field of feminist economics specifically. Her IASH project as an African Fellow explores the gendered impact of the COVID-19 crisis in the labour market and the home in South Africa, and she is visiting Edinburgh from December 2023 to February 2024. Her Work-in-Progress seminar takes place on Thursday 18 January at 1pm.
A small reception was held at IASH's temporary offices on Roxburgh Street on Wednesday 10 January 2024, to mark the occasion with drinks and cake, and to toast Fellows past, current and future.
Professor Matthew Bampton from the University of Southern Maine (Fulbright Visiting Professor 2014-15) was the 1000th Fellow, a little less than a decade ago; his work explored the impact of catastrophic storms during the Little Ice Age on a Shetland Island community.
