POSTPONED

IASH is pleased to host the launch of Chris Cooijmans’ Monarchs and Hydrarchs, which examines the lesser-known exploits of vikings in and around the Frankish realm, thereby emphasising the region's importance to the development of the wider viking expansion. Reinterpreting this endeavour through the lens of ‘hydrarchy’, the book manages to identify various overarching patterns of viking activity, challenging persistent notions that this behaviour would have been capricious, haphazard, and gratuitous in character.

Dr Christian Cooijmans is a current British Academy Research Fellowship at the University of Liverpool. A former Postdoctoral Fellow at IASH, his research focuses on the reach and repercussions of viking activity across the European mainland, as well as it subsequent, later medieval historiography.

Drinks reception to follow.
