Film is a distinct medium with a distinct history and, as such, requires a distinct pedagogy.
The Scottish International Film Education Conference is one of two new UK-based initiatives exploring how teachers and other educators work with film in diverse contexts around the world, and committed to involving other participants – policy-makers, academics, researchers, cultural agencies and film-makers – in that conversation. The conference will be a free, one-day event taking place at the University of Edinburgh, exploring perspectives on film education from Scotland, England, Ireland, Burkina Faso, Austria, Denmark, Germany and beyond.
The conference is organised in partnership with the newly-established Film Education Journal, the world’s only publication dedicated to film pedagogy, published by UCL Institute of Education Press. The journal will be launched on the 20th June at the Scottish International Film Education Conference.
