Roger Bacon: Making Sense with Nonsense: Psychoanalysing the Talking Cure...
When: April 14th 2016*
The title of my seminar is Making Sense of Nonsense. One part will be an attempt to sketch out my own formation from a sociologist, interested in developmental psychology and philosophical methodology, to a psychoanalyst whose practice is founded in the Freudian concepts of unconscious desire and the process of free association. The other part, then, will describe what it is like, and why it is important, to live and work with seemingly contradictory and irreconcilable background ideas and experiences; and with concepts, some of which appear utterly nonsensical but can prove to be wonderfully generative within the analytic relationship.I am a psychoanalyst and have been working in private practice for the last 33 years. I worked in Cambridge as a founder member of the Cambridge Psychotherapy Practice and in 2005 my wife and I moved to Edinburgh where I have been in practice since 2006...
Followed by an invitation to continue the discussions across the road at ‘Doctors’. No need to book.
