Christian Ethics between Conviction and Compromises

Compromises are an important tool of political ethics, particularly in a pluralistic society, in order to remain capable of action. However, there are also limits to compromise; philosophically, reference is made to human dignity, religiously to the commandments of God. Such limitations can, however, get out of hand. Contemporary peace research speaks of an outbidding process through which religions can undermine and delegitimise any willingness to compromise. This raises the question of mechanisms for the self-regulation of religions – and I would like to present two such mechanisms following K.A. Appiah and J. Morley.
