Patricia Allmer Writing Lee Miller
26th April 2016
17:20
Evolution House (Boardroom, 5th floor), 78 West Port, Edinburgh
This talk by Patricia Allmer is the ninth in our series of ECA Chancellor's Fellows' Talks
Chancellor’s Fellows are appointed to Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) in recognition of their research excellence; there are currently 11 Fellows at the College.
Dr Patricia Allmer is a leading scholar of surrealism and author of the new monograph, Lee Miller: Surrealism, Photography, and Beyond; she is based in the School of History of Art.
It offers new, revisionary readings of Miller’s canonical photographs of the modernist Parisian avant-garde, London in the Blitz, and post-War European landscapes, as well as detailed analyses of less well-known works.
It sets out to resituate Miller as a key contributor to the British post-War avant-garde scene, including her artistic, intellectual, and curatorial work for major ICA exhibitions such as Wonder and Horror of the Human Head (1953)
