DESCRIPTION

Ousmane Sembène, otherwise known as the father of African cinema, is one of the key figures of world cinema, and yet his works, still relevant today, remain unknown to many. As part of the 'Rebel with a camera' series, Just Festival are partnering with the Africa in Motion Film Festival to screen his incredible work and give more people a chance to view key and groundbreaking pieces of world cinema. On the 21st March we will be showing, Sembene's final film, Moolaadé (2004).

Moolaadé, is at once a passionately critical look at an African practice of female genital mutilation that is practiced in more than 38 countries and a tribute to everyday heroism of African women (and men) against the tremendous internal problems facing modern day, post-colonial Africa.
