Dear colleagues,

On Monday 13 March 2017 (5.30-7pm, 50 George Square Lecture Theatre, LT G.03), the Centre for South Asian Studies is sponsoring the following event to which you are cordially invited:

The Asylum Monologues follow refugees on their journey as they travel across many different borders - and explore the hurdles they continue to face once they arrive at their destination. Launched at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016, this Scottish verbatim script focuses on the stories of a Kurdish unaccompanied minor, a young Pakistani man, and an Iranian woman and their stories in Scotland. Originally launched by Amnesty International in June 2006, the Asylum Monologues has been touring ever since to raise awareness of asylum seekers’ experiences by sharing their stories with the communities they now belong to.

The rehearsed reading will be followed by a panel discussion hosted by Beyond Borders Scotland. Panel members will be one of the actors, an academic, and a practitioner.

This event is sponsored by the following University of Edinburgh units: Social Anthropology, Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS), Global Justice Academy (GJA), Citizens, Nations and Migration Network (CNaM), and Global Development Academy (GDA).
