Support our work

The Institute is extremely grateful to those who have provided funding in the past and those who continue to fund its activities.  We are constantly seeking to expand our activities and the opportunities offered to the Fellows.

If you would be interested in supporting the work of the Institute, you might like to consider donating to one of the following:

International links

Through the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI), we are affiliated with an international network of institutions throughout the world with similar goals to our own. IASH is also a founder member of the UK-based Consortium of Institutes of Advanced Studies (CIAS) which currently comprises 20 research institutes based within universities. It is an active member of two European networks: the Network of Institutes for Advanced Studies, NetIAS; and the European Consortium for Humanities Institutes and Centres (ECHIC).

Around Edinburgh

We have collaborative links with a number of Edinburgh’s cultural institutions, including the National Museums of Scotland, the National Galleries of Scotland, the National Library of Scotland, the National Archives of Scotland, and the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Engagement

Over the years, IASH has focused on a number of key questions in the humanities, especially those which have relevance to the position of Edinburgh within the tradition of the Scottish Enlightenment, a tradition which continues to have relevance today. Our most recent theme for 2021-2024 was decoloniality.

Fellowship programmes

Throughout the year, IASH hosts a lively scholarly community of visiting fellows. It is a supportive environment for postdoctoral researchers, while also attracting successful mid-career and eminent senior scholars. The Institute occupies a historic building with private courtyard and leafy views—perfect for uninterrupted thinking, reading and writing. Yet there is also plenty of opportunity to socialise and share ideas. From upwards of 65 countries, IASH Fellows form a global alumni community, and many career-long connections begin at the Institute.

Resources for fellows

Edinburgh is a national capital and has rich cultural and archival resources. The University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583 and, with over 16,000 students, is one of Britain’s leading research universities. The University Library is an outstanding research resource, and has particularly rich special collections, especially in Imperial History and Scottish Literature. The National Library of Scotland is one of three deposit libraries in the United Kingdom and has unparalleled resources for scholars.
