EVENTS

  • Stuart MacRae’s opera The Assassin Tree, with a libretto by Simon Armitage, premieres at the Edinburgh International Festival. Olga Wojtas, Scottish editor of the Times Higher Education Supplement, visits IASH to talk to Fellows and interview MacRae for an article coinciding with the premiere.
  • As part of the Humanities in the 21st Century theme, the British Society of Aesthetics supports a one-day conference titled Aesthetics, Culture and Society.
  • The Is History Fiction? seminar is presented by Professor Ann Curthoys and John Docker.
  • The Institute hosts a meeting of the Early Modern Seminar in Scotland on Sovereignty and Nationhood.
  • IASH hosts a symposium on Literary History Today to mark the publication of the Edinburgh History of Scottish Literature.
  • IASH holds a joint colloquium with the British Academy on A Wealth of Ideas: The Value of the Humanities in Modern Society.
  • IASH hosts a meeting with members of the Cambridge Centre for History and Economics’ Mellon programme on Exchanges of Economic and Political Ideas since 1750. Dr Jim Kelly follows the meeting with a colloquium on Sentiment and Social Networks in Ireland and Scotland, 1707-1801.

  • IASH hosts a meeting with the Visual Arts Research Institute, Edinburgh on Visuality and Cognition.
