Established in 1988, the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes serves as a site for the discussion of issues germane to the fostering of interdisciplinary humanities and as a network for the circulation of information and the sharing of resources. It has a membership of over 132 centers and institutes that are remarkably diverse in size and scope and are located in the United States, Australia, Canada, Finland, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Ireland, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, and other countries. CHCI members are encouraged to meet and confer with their peers and colleagues in an annual meeting hosted by one of CHCI's member institutions. The Annual Meeting is planned within a broadly defined intellectual theme of significance to the field, and also includes workshops and sessions on programming, planning, facilities, assessment, and organizational development and advancement. Recent meetings have taken place at Stanford University, Utrecht University, the University of Chicago, and Washington University in Saint Louis. The 2009 CHCI meeting will take place at the University of Edinburgh from 11-13 June. Membership in the CHCI is open to all humanities centers, research centers, and institutes for advanced study, whether or not they are affiliated with a college or university. The organization also welcomes certain types of interdisciplinary departments and programs, and other membership and advocacy organizations that serve the humanities. Further information is available on the CHCI website. |
